| Broca's area - location in the brain responsible for the motor images of words Wernicke's area - location in the brain responsible for the images of words
Conduction Aphasia - damage to the fibers connecting Broca's and Wernicke's areas - one symptom: transpositions of sounds within a word (e.g. "television" -> "velitision") are common. - a dialogue: Clinician: Now, I want you to say some words after me. Say "boy." Patient: Boy Clinician: Home Patient: Home Clinician: Seventy-nine Patient: Ninety-seven. No ... sevinty-sine... siventy-nice Clinician: Let's try another one. Say "refrigerator." Patient: Frigilator... no? How about... frerigilator... no... frigaliterater... aaah! It's all mixed up!
the dialogue is so cute... and kind of funny, but sooo sad. gosh... we take language for granted.
taking this class, and learning about all these different problems that happen made me really scared that i'll hit my head and lose some language function... so scary.
| walking into the courtyard i saw all the people i loved crowded around together talking and enjoying eachother the wedding party was taking pictures and everybody was crowded around to watch them. (they were beautiful)
jenna and kara wanted to take a picture with Moses. i thought "Moses?? what are they talking about?" then i saw it a huge bronze statue of Moses holding the tablets. ... omigosh i thought it was pretty hilarious that they wanted to take a picture with him
i had to go to the bathroom, and someone pointed it out to me and said "go, it's REALLY nice in there!" i thought "how nice could a bathroom be?" it looked like a palace gold trimmings, sinks that had automatic soup-dispensers... gloria was taking caleb to the bathroom and she said, "look caleb! it's a castle! let's go potty in the castle!" "no." (hahahaha)
once we sat down a humongo organ was playing (i kept thinking about count dracula) the wedding party came down the aisle, which had an artificial river down the middle. when nelly walked down the aisle the river started shooting water up like a fountain, a big glass door opened on the side of the building and huge fountains were shooting up on that side too.
the service started and a strange man whom i've never seen before starting telling us how chris and nelly met and started dating, how he proposed etc. pastor john was standing right there (who had been there when they met, when they were dating, and was part of the plot when chris wanted to propose).
the rest of the ceremony was beautiful. we sang Great is Thy Faithfulness pastor john preached from the word to encourage and exhort the couple, and pointed to the cross as the reference point of everything. chris and nelly were so happy and beautiful as they exchanged vows. i loved how they enjoyed eachothers company even as 500 people watched them getting married. their lives were brought together by the sovereign hand of God. a week before, nelly was talking about how the wedding day wasn't a big deal for her. it's just a day, and the thing that will matter is the marriage. each of their lives are constantly being shaped by the word of God: sanctifying them individually to grow more in love for God more in holiness and righteousness, more in love for one another.
there was a sharp contrast made that day. the lasting, eternal word of God, which continues to show itself as living and active - coursing through the lives of those whom the Holy Spirit inhabits and the fleeting beauty of this world. looking back on all of those ornaments and things, they were cool, but that's not what i remember. i remember what it was like, but it's not etched in my memory affecting me and changing me. what is etched in my memory is the people, and the word of God chris and nelly who make a difference in other people's lives - pointing them to God, pointing eachother to God, encouraging others to live for His glory. pastor john who faithfully chooses to preach the word unwatered the Lighthouse family who rejoiced with chris and nelly. i saw a lot of people who seemed like they were nelly's coworkers, and knowing nelly, she probably wanted them to hear the gospel even while it was her wedding.
in the end, God will be shown in all His glory, and all the grandeur of the crystal cathedral will look so small and insignificant. His work will be revealed to be truly majestic. the church will be presented and the glory of His grace will be lauded. how truly magnificent it will be that day.
| "Would that the traitor's kiss that Judas gave was the only one, but in a spiritual sense Jesus still has to endure it a thousand-fold to this hour.
For hypocritically to confess Jesus with your mouth while your conduct belies Him, to exalt Him to the skies and the virtue of His humanity while divesting Him of His divine glory and tearing the crown of universal majesty from His head, to sing enthusiastic hymns to Him while trampling His gospel by word and deed underfoot what is that but a Judas kiss by which men pollute the face of Jesus Christ"
- krumocker (?... i heard this quote in a sermon, but i didn't recognize the name... does anyone know who this might be? and how to spell his name if you do?)
| i had an epiphany.
Christian walking is like math.
once you get to higher math: calculus, trig, even geometry you learn all these formulas. you learn the principle behind them (i'm thinking of the Shell method) and you think you understand it. it makes sense in your head. so you do a problem, but you think... wait. is this how you do it? what do i do next?
you're stuck. you thought you knew it! so you look at an example in the book and though your problem is a bit different you think oh! i can apply how they did it to my problem!
when test day comes, if you haven't practiced, no matter how many formulas you read through on the ride to school you're not going to get the right answers even if you've memorized the formulas if you don't do the problems: making mistakes, going back to see what you did wrong, fixing it, doing it better on the next problem, you're not really going to know the formulas.
